Which Vehicles Have the Best Warranty Coverage?

New Car License Form

A new car license has three different types of coverage in length:

Bumper-to-Bumper: Sometimes called a bumper, this bumper is what most people think of first. A bumper-to-bumper warranty covers the entire vehicle, often excluding normal replacement parts such as filters, brake pads, and brake pads.

There are often separate insurances for steel and equipment under federal and state laws.

Tires are covered by the tire manufacturer’s warranty.

Powertrain: This is covered separately for time or mileage, but that’s only for the engine, transmission, and drivetrain. Powertrain specifications may also include components in the drive system for electric and gas-electric hybrids.

Roadside Assistance: This assistance provides some help if you are stranded on the side of the road.

Electric vehicles will get more coverage for the main battery, the vehicle’s most expensive component.

Federal law requires it to be covered against damage for at least eight years or 100,000 miles; some car manufacturers offer extended coverage and some states require it.

In California and states that use California law, coverage must be 10 years or 150,000 miles, so any voltage battery coverage listed below must meet at least those limits for vehicles purchased in those states. But it is important to read good books.

Battery failure is rare, but lack of capacity is not.

All batteries lose capacity over time, reducing the available range.

Some, but not all, EV warranties also offer protection against this loss, usually guaranteeing that the battery will retain at least 70% of its original capacity during the warranty year.

Here is a ranking of new car licenses for private buyers according to the types of licenses and ranked from outstanding to average:

Premium warranty

These models stand out for their generous capacity in the bumper and powertrain others.

However, one caveat is that their long-term car warranty only covers the owner.

For subsequent owners, powertrain coverage reverts to the same limits as the base warranty.

Fisker

Roadside assistance coverage for the Fisker Coaster comes at six years or 60,000 miles, while power and battery coverage is 10 years or 100,000 miles with a retention of 75% battery capacity. Hyundai, Genesis, Kia
Bumper coverage lasts five years or 60,000 miles, Powertrain coverage lasts 10 years or 100,000 miles, and roadside assistance extends to five years without limit. Genesis also offers maintenance upgrades and service coverage.

The main drive battery and system components for electric and hybrid vehicles are covered for 10 years or 100,000 kilometers, and the degradation of the electric vehicle battery is limited to 70% of its capacity.

Mitsubishi

Bumper coverage lasts five years or 60,000 miles, Powertrain coverage is 10 years or 100,000 miles, and roadside assistance coverage lasts five years without a travel cap.

Powertrain coverage includes Outlander’s plug-in hybrid SUV, but there is no provision for loss of battery capacity.

Rivian

Roadside assistance coverage extends for five years or 60,000 kilometers. Powertrain coverage is eight years or 175,000 miles, and coverage for the battery pack is eight years or 175,000 miles with a battery capacity of at least 70%.
